Warning Against False Teaching and Exhortation to Godly Living

1 Timothy 4:1-16

Chapter 4

¹ But the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons. ² in hypocrisy of false teachers, having been cauterized in their own conscience, ³ forbidding marriage, to abstain from foods which God created for participation with thanksgiving by the faithful and those who have fully known the truth. ⁴ because every creation of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected when it is received with thanksgiving. ⁵ for it is sanctified through the word of God and entreaty. ⁶ Suggesting these things to the brothers, you will be a good servant of Jesus Christ, being nourished by the words of the faith and of the good teaching which you have followed. ⁷ But refuse profane and old wives' myths. Train yourself toward godliness. ⁸ For bodily training is profitable for a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of life, the now and the coming. ⁹ The word is faithful and worthy of all acceptance. ¹⁰ For this is why we labor and are reproached, because we have hoped in the living God, who is the Savior of all humans, especially of the faithful ones. ¹¹ Command these things and teach them. ¹² Let no one despise your youthfulness, but become a pattern of the faithful in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. ¹³ Until I come, pay attention to the reading, the exhortation, and the teaching. ¹⁴ Do not neglect the spiritual gift in you, which was given to you through prophecy with the laying on of hands of the elder body. ¹⁵ Practice these things; be in them, so that your progress may be evident to all. ¹⁶ Pay attention to yourself and the teaching. Persist in them. For doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
